I had been using compiz-fusion from AUR (nesl247's PKGBUILDS) for some time without any problems. Over +/- the last month I found that it had somehow stopped working properly. I tried updating the installation without much success. I have an intel graphics chipset. I decided to get back to basics and found that I needed to add XAANoOffscreenPixmaps to the xorg file to get everything working again. The problems were related to using the updated xserver.
The reason I am posting this is that with compiz many problems are in fact related to setting up the xserver and the graphics properly and not with the software.
