I am using thunar filemanager with fluxbox. Today when i fireup thunar the icons were gone, but a plain file icon for folders and files. I have haven't uninstalled any appliation except for accrobat reader.
In my last full system update gtk was updated, can this be the cause.

I have exactly the same problem, has the syntax changed for .gtkrc? Is there anyone who can help? Thunar without proper icons is very confusing and nearly useless...
Here is some output from the terminal, I'm using the Tango icon theme:
(thunar:9309): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading theme icon 'gnome-fs-home' for stock: Icon 'gnome-fs-home' not present in theme
Thanks!
Edit
I found this but it's not working for me...

After a long reinstall of Gnome I got it finally working. I don't really know what was wrong, but I think there was something dodgy in my libx11-xcb, since with plain libx11 everything is working fine.
All I had to do was to add the following line to my ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file again:
gtk-icon-theme-name = "Tango"
Everything is fine now
