(Solved) Hplip - 2.7.7 does not print

Hey,
I'm not able to get my HP PSC1610 working. I'm using the PKGBUILD from the bug report that has been put since the package in the repos is currently out-of-date (version 1.7.4a as opposed to the latest 2.7.7).

Here is the data for my machine.

hp-check gives the following error message

If anyone has ideas about how to get the printer working, please let me know . Also, if I have forgotten to provide any data, let me know and I will get it.

Thanks,

Re: (Solved) Hplip - 2.7.7 does not print

Ravster,

I discovered that my printer would not print today. hp-toolbox tells me that "No installed HP devices are found", which is very interesting as I now have a working Deskjet 5940 having deleted the old device through the CUPS web interface and reinstalling. The thing that is really confusing me is that I first did a full system update (only about 48 meg) as I noted a new version of hplip. Upon completion I thought it best to restart CUPS and hplip before trying to print again. I have hplip in my /etc/rc.conf. Yet I do not have /etc/rc.d/hplip. Where has it gone?

The good news is that my printer works. What is puzzling me is what is going on with the hplip stuff as it is not working and doesn't appear to be in the usual place.

I hope you got you problem sorted.

Alan

Re: (Solved) Hplip - 2.7.7 does not print

Hi Ravster,

I use a PSC750 with Foomatic/hpijs driver and CUPS, works great. Do you have CUPS installed? Is it configured correctly? Check http://localhost:631/ with your webbrowser. The URI of the printer was a tough not for me to crack. I have "usb://HP/PSC%20750?serial=HU19ACT370WB". This should be set automatically by CUPS I think. Also check that cupsd in in as a daemon in /etc/rc.config.

You should remove hplip from the /etc/rc.conf, because hplip no longer use an init script.

Re: (Solved) Hplip - 2.7.7 does not print

K, so I aggregated all your suggestions and did the following:
Delete my printer in CUPS
Delete my printer in hp-toolbox
Uninstall hplip
Re-install CUPS
Do an 'Add Printer' through CUPS
And now my printer is done, though hp-toolbox cannot identify the printer since the URI in CUPS is 'usb://'. hp-toolbox only works when the URI is 'hp://'.
Thank you all for your help,
My printer is working now. I'll keep trying new versions of hplip as they come out to check if they work correctly with my printer.

I found http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting, formerly linuxprinting.org to be a very good resource.

Re: (Solved) Hplip - 2.7.7 does not print

I have still same problem. sad I've re-installed foomatic-*, cups, perl and hplip packages but my printer still does not print. My printer is HP PSC-1315 all-in-one and scanner works fine.

Firstly I got "Unable to communicate with device" -error, but I solved it (permission problem). Then I got "open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds..." -error. This point I re-installed the packages, but now I get "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed" and "open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds..." errors.

Here is everything.log message:

Earlier version of the hplip everything worked fine. I can't understand why it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Re: (Solved) Hplip - 2.7.7 does not print

Trilog,

I do not have any answers but agree with you that something has changed. Fortunately I can print but the hp-toolbox only offers very limited functionality i.e. only the Print Settings and Print Control tabs work. The general message is "Error: Device not found. Please check connection and power on". Clearly the device has been found otherwise I could not use the print settings. This time I set-up the printer using the hp set-up tool. Is this the sort of thing that should be fed back as a bug?

Thanks.

Re: (Solved) Hplip - 2.7.7 does not print

i can't get hplip 2.7.10 working with my hp deskjet 5550. it has worked in the past. i think an upgrade broke it. I am also getting the

Oct 31 10:18:53 joseph deskjet_5550?serial=MY31D1P0ZP2L: INFO: open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds...

over and over and over and over

i have tried deleting and re-adding with hp-toolbox. i have even tried the window fixing method and reinstalled cups. I'm about to try just bypassing hplip altogether like somebody did. it would be nice if somebody figured out what was going on.

btw i think the rc script is gone because hplip is executed by udev now. i could be wrong but thats what i assumed happened.
