Confused about xorg.conf drivers

I am confused. I took a small break from Arch, then when I came back and reinstalled, I ran into a confusing issue. Normally, I just installed my video drivers, xorg-server, copied over my saved xorg.conf, installed KDEmod, and went on my merry way.

Not this time. Come to find out, the keyboard and mouse support (xf86-input-mouse xf86-input-keyboard)were not included with xorg-server when I installed it. This is confusing to me. It wasn't like this a few months ago, that I can recall.

Whats the reasoning for the change? I can't see an obvious advantage or reason. It certainly makes things less than intuitive.

Both are part of the group xorg-input-drivers.
If you do a 'pacman -Sg', you will see the 3 xorg groups.

As to the reasoning for the change, I don't remember.

Xorg probably made the transition from monolithic to modular during the time you were away. There are real advantages to only installing what you need and the Wiki does document the procedure.

Imagine my surprise, though. I never figured I'd have to look at the wiki

Is this stuff outlined in the news letter? Because it never hit the front page in the few months I was away.
