I've just installed Compiz Fusion per the wiki and it's working fine except for the above problem.
No matter what I try I get a 3mm band/border/bar around my (Gnome) menu and also along the bottom of my Gnome (top) panel (I don't have a bottom panel - I've removed it).
Has anyone had this problem and do they know how to fix it?
I'm running an ATi Radeon Mobility 7500 using AIGLX + the open source 'radeon' driver and Beryl used to run without any glitches. Direct rendering is also working.

How do I change the window manager from gtk to emerald?
I don't seem to have a CompizFusion icon appearing anywhere on my desktop.
Is there an app I run?

fusion-icon-tray
is responsible for tray icon. You can put this command to autostart to automate it.

try this:
ccsm -> Effect -> Windows Decoration:
First option: set 5
Second option (opacity window): 0

i worked around this issue by activating the reflections-plugin. I don't know why, but it works with gtk-window-decorator.

See my post in The Compiz Topic. It has a workaround that might help you.
