[SOLVED] Kaboodle and Noatun broken after pacman -Syu

After a full system upgrade (pacman -Syu) which upgraded KDE plus a lot of its applications to v.3.5.8 (including presumably Kaboodle to 1.7 and Noatun to ??), these two media players won't open or play .mpg, .wmv and .avi files anymore which they did before.  Noatun won't even start up.

By contrast, MPlayer, VLC, Kaffeine and Xine all play all three of these formats (audio and video) without a problem.  How do I fix this?

Running another full system upgrade yesterday which among other packages upgraded codecs (20061022-2 -> 20071007-1) fixed the problem.
