I can't figure out why X starts in 1024x768 resolution. It was all fine before I updated X a couple of days ago. I have tried disabling composite and AIGLX, but the problem is still there. Please help me out.

check for warnings in your Xorg.0.log also, you are using dpms, any readon for having that modeline?

I don't know what you mean. But there's a line saying: "Output VGA-0 using initial mode 1024x768
after xf86InitialConfiguration".

It's probably the new video driver that is using the new xrandr.
The video modes in the screen section in xorg.conf are interpreted differently. It is also not possible anymore to "browse" through the video modes (the ones defined in the screen section in xorg.conf) with CTRL+ALT+plus/minus.
You can change the video mode by trying this:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1280x1024
If you want everything to work as before you have to downgrade the video driver... you probably have to recompile the old video driver yourself.
