Yes, they're very beautiful, but I'm not sure what they say about Arch. "Use arch, or you'll end up like this". "Arch Linux: the deadly distro". Heheh...
My thoughts was more: Arch the prehistoric distribution.
Anyway, I think they look nice, except that it might be a bit to much of the glow effect.

They're just fun wallpapers. They're not 'saying' anything about arch.
I can probably reduce some of the glow for the second one ... reducing it for the first will lose all of the artwork surrounding the logo.
Prehistoric bones are aged and yellow not x-ray blue or dark metal.

Actually, the first one reminded me of some kind of fossil, not some old bones.

ok, that made me laugh. The first image I think of when I think of a fossil is the fossil-brand, which uses 'old bones' ....

Gold-leaf covered dark chocolate logo splashing into molten milk chocolate: (p.s. this says arch is rich and chocolaty. )
Oooh! 28-hour update to the prismatic render:
Offline
It says Arch can count a talented 3D artist among its users, that's what it says.
And that chocolate makes an unholy mess when you melt it and drop a big triple-arch logo into it.
I don't think I'd have the patience for those prismatic renders. Looking good now, though.

LOL thank you!
The prismatic rendering is at least going on in background cycles/ram. (I mean, it's always a good thing to rev the engines a bit every now and then right? 100% cpu is a good thing. )
There's this heavenly chocolate cafe near where I live and I've watched the chocolatiers 'play' in the chocolate. While they are exceptionally good at what they do, I have seen the accidental splash. Unholy mess indeed. That's exactly what that wallpaper is saying. That a triple-arch logo can make an unholy mess in molten chocolate.

cerise,
I love the bone pics. They're awesome. I tend to agree though that it may be a wee bit much for the default Arch logo. On the other hand, if you develop an icon set to go with it, it would make a killer theme.

LOL
Most of these wallpapers aren't intended as the default arch wallpaper -- they're more like the 'expansion packs' you can pick up later. A few distros out there have tons and tons of 'wallpapers from every genre' created by/for all kinds of people, so I thought it would be a good idea to explore the range of wallpapers that could be possible to make (by one person/pov.) -- at least with the triple-arch logo idea.
I'm happy you like the bone series!
Hmmm.... Icon sets, eh? Hmmm........ that's a possibility too.... I have a 'default' style of icon set that works off/with the tango sets that I've built for the triple-arch logo / palette... I could look into making bone-folders... a pelvic bone would be good for that, or perhaps ribs... hmmm....
Your pun kills me.

Rule #1 is, we don't talk about arch linux:
*edit: still making tweaks to the soap texture / soap dish...

The spinal one is most disturbing, eerie and morbid. I love it.

Hm - I guess I didn't address that. The voting period will last at most two weeks from 12:01AM Friday, November 9th, EST. Hopefully it shouldn't take that long, but I wanted to give people time to give it good consideration. We've already got about 2/3 of the votes in.

Just curious...is there already a clear favorite (no, I don't expect that you tell us which one, if there is one)? I looked at the submissions again this afternoon and it would be a tough choice for me to choose one, I know which ones I dislike...but a real favorite...

I am refraining from commenting on the votes in any way. You'll see the results soon enough.

I didn't do much extra artwork with the original version of my logo, but I think I now prefer the simplicity of it.
And an idea of how it could be used with a background image:
(The picture's not perfect; it just happened to be one I took recently. But you get the idea. It's the Kingston Bridge carrying the M8 motorway over the River Clyde in Glasgow, if anyone's interested.)
I've also done an IceWM theme, but it isn't really in a fit state to release. It works for me, but would almost certainly crap up in another installation. Here's a little preview pic, though:

cerise, first of all great job on all of these mockups, you have really got me pulling for your logo. I was wondering if these are scaled down images of wallpapers. and if so could you take a request for the full-scale images.
