CD Burning Problem - Can write DVD but not CD [SEMI-SOLVED]

Hi, I am having problem with writing CD's. The problem is when I start to write a CD it starts normal but after a certain amount of data is written; it either finishes suddenly resulting a broken CD or giving an error message and fails.

I tried k3b, gnomebaker and brasero. No use... Also I tried writing a couple of CD's in Windows with Nero 7.. but it failed too. However I am able to write DVD's with k3b without any problem...

k3b returns following errors:

cdrecord has no permission to open the device

Errno: 5 (Input/output error), write_g1 scsi sendcmd: no error

If another log etc is needed please tell me with howto since I am a newbie... Thanks in advance...

Update: When I googled deep I came acroos to a Win forum; which tells "the laser gets dim after a while, try writing in low speed" Well I tried it with speed x2; and it worked but it took one hour to a burn. So any other solution is appreciated...
