I have so far not been able to get ethernet to work with r8189, instead I have the latest and greatest r1000 driver from realtek's website.

Module r1000 is supported by Arch's latest kernel. I have updated the pcitable. Run "hwd -u"

I've run hwd -u, but it still says r8169 instead of r1000 hmm

Its fixed. After "hwd -u" run "hwd" if it shows: "pci:    snapshot Sun 2006-Jun-30".

Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

The last update was on 2006-12-30 and I don't think hwd is maintained any longer.

I thought giving up with hwd when hwdetect does the job. But users are asking for it, especially to generate X configure. To update hwd requires to change the hardware search engine, currently using lshwd and a pcitable (no longer maintained, nor pcitable by mandrive or other distros)
http://cvs.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc. … t-lst/lst/

Few days ago I took a look at pciutils and hwdetect. If combined becomes a fast and powerful engine, Sound promising for hwd. if does well, I let you know in few days time.

@rasat: if hwd will indeed be no longer maintained can u let the devs know? ppl still recommend it in guides in the wiki and stuff

With the experiment with pciutils as the new search engine, hwd will continue. I am now working on version 5.0. I am inspired.

Any idea how to detect  the mouse without lshwd, if the machine is using PS/2 or USB?

EDIT
lsudb does well for usb. If not found then obviously its PS/2 cool ... also printers, scanners, and cameras are detected.
