I installed 2007.8-2 after a Bittorent dl. I edited /etc/inittab.conf to ONLY id 5 and near the end uncommonted the line for kdm login manager.
When asked I entered the pw and user info but still get, 'localhost login' and I enter root and it's password. I get the # prompt.
After a few minutes I get 10 of these:
INIT: cannot execute "usr/bin/xdm"
...followed by:
init: iD "x" respawn ing too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
It waits for the initial period and repetitively does it again and again and again.
What should I do?

Did you comment the line x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon first as this will be run before the kdm line.

I had TWO lines UNcommented; there is only one now and it stopped the loop but....
I still have to do the 'myhost login:' thing and I BRIEFLY see something that says X spawning or something like that and then...
I get the 'myhost login:'
...and it loops that way.

CORRECTION from previous reply.
I had TWO lines UNcommented one.
it still gives me the same message...after waiting 5 minutes on the 'myhost login:' prompt.
I still have to do the 'myhost login:' thing and I BRIEFLY see something that says X spawning or something like that and then...
I get the 'myhost login:' before it starts the message thing after a 5 minute delay and it looks as before.
...and it loops that way.
