[solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

Since i removed a daemon (ioniced) from my system, i get the following error on shutdown:

/etc/rc.shutdown: line 40: /etc/rc.d/ioniced: no such file or directory

I already tried to delete /var/run/daemons/ioniced and it works for the next shutdown, but when i shutdown the machine again (the second time) the error is back again...

Maybe it has something to do with the rc-script for ioniced, check it out here

So, how can i remove this stuff completely?

Thanks

Did you remove the deamon from your list in rc.conf?

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

Yes, the daemon is not listed in my rc.conf:

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng crond gpm network portmap hal avahi-daemon avahi-dnsconfd lisa cups postgresql sshd alsa cpufreqd kdm)

This error appears only on shutdown, no problems when booting up...

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

My guess is that you have a file named ioniced left in /var/run/daemons/. Try to remove it and check if the problem disappears.

Edit: I saw that you already tried it. Maybe it is started by another script. Anyway, it seems really strange that it reappears. Do you still have the ioniced script file in rc.d? You could try to rename it or move it somewhere else and see if that solves the problem.

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

I already tried that, as described in my first post...

This works for exactly one shutdown. Somehow the file gets recreated on the next boot or so, but i dont know where to find the culprit...

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

As I mention in my previous post but I am not sure if you saw it. It could be another deamon which is responsible for starting ioniced. Try to search through all the deamons for ioniced. Kate has a nice function for doing this. Might be a wild guess as well.

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

Sorry, i didnt notice your edit:... Hm, seems that i have to do a system-wide fulltext search as you proposed. I will post here later with the outcomes...

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

Not sure if you have started the system-wide fulltext search already, but my guess is that it is most probably located in one of the daemons in /etc/rc.d/ (similar as dbus is started by hal if it isn't already running). It could as well be located somewhere in /etc. Anyway, I don't think it is located anwhere else.

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

Yeah, I'd do a grep "ioniced" /etc/rc.d/*

Re: [solved] Help me removing some daemon leftovers

Yes, a system-wide fulltext search would indeed be a bit exaggerated smile

Thanks for your help, i found the culprit: Another initscript, where i forgot to change "add_daemon"

Solved smile
