Blackberry sync?

Is anyone using a blackberry phone and synchronizes it via Linux tools?
Or is this not possible? I'm currently thinking about buying a blackberry but would not like to install windows to sync contacts.

cheers

Re: Blackberry sync?

It's not possible, and frankly at this point I will never recommend a Blackberry for Linux users even if they do ever make it possible.  I've had a BB 8700  from Rogers for over a year now and the lack of Linux support has been a thorn in my side since day one.

If you are considering a smart phone there are a couple of vendors that *do* provide Linux support, but they are few and far between.  I am waiting for Google to step up with their new mobile software in hopes that it will push the industry toward cross-platform compatibility.

Re: Blackberry sync?

just expanding on the topic a little, are there any recommendations wrt phones and other hand helds that do play nicely?  I'd probably avoid a BB anyway, as my current job requires me to support them and they seem more trouble than they're worth!

My old Sony-Eriksson K750i worked really well as a mass storage device, but it's replacement (a W810i, almost the same phone) needed to be turned off to show as a flash drive.

My current [edit]SAMSUNG[/edit] e590 doesn't have the same problem, but I'd love to know if there's anything out there that might allow me to sync more than just my snaps and MP3s!

(fp btw, have been lurking in the shadows for a little while)
