Hi there!
I'm using a plain X without any WM. The is also no mouse plugged in, too. But i always see the big X- Cursor in the middle of my screen after starting X.
Is there any possability to start X completly without mouse?
I also try to install a X cursor theme like described in the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/X11_Cursors), but this doesnt work either.
any ideas?
thank you very much

Untar X cursor theme packages into ~/.icons or /usr/share/icons.
Then add a line to your ~/.Xdefaults like so:
Xcursor.theme:Vanilla-DMZ-AA
Where the part in bold needs to be the folder name in the cursor package. In my example, I have installed xcursor-vanilla-dmz-aa from AUR, which installs a folder called Vanilla-DMZ-AA in /usr/share/icons.
As for starting without a mouse...maybe there's a way with xsetroot, but I'm unsure.

Here are some cursors you can specify with xsetroot.
For instance, a normal arrow is set with
xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr
etc.
Sadly, it looks like none of these are nonexistent. You may have to make one that way yourself.

What would happen if you remove any mouse references in xorg.conf and start with Xorg -allowMouseOpenFail? (man xorg says something about a xorg.conf setting for this as well, so look into that)

an ugly solution could be to run "unclutter" on start, but it is an extra process that is not needed.
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

the unclutter does the job. maybe i try to build an empty mouse cusor theme later.

Just wondering, may I ask you why you wouldn't want a WM? How are you working in X? Would a tiling WM suit you?
