Well, the subject says it all.
Here is what I get when running firefox:
[quetzyg@DRUMCODE ~]$ firefox
/opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-2.0.0.7/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 4248 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
[quetzyg@DRUMCODE ~]$
Does anyone else have a similar problem?

My Thunderbird runs fine, is just Firefox that crashes. I can only run it in Safe mode.

Try this
firefox -profilemanager
Make a new clean profile and test it.

A new profile works fine, until I open the Edit/Preferences menu, and segfaults.

I have the same problem since the last upgrade.
Dunno if my problem is just xfce related but I could fix it by selecting a different gtk-theme, like AriciU postet here.
Gtk-themes that uses the pixmap or aurora engine let firefox segfault... no problems with clearlooks and murrine themes tho.

I was using Crux, switched to Clearlooks and works fine now. Very, very strange.

Just for clarification, are you using xfce as well Mr Green and quetzyg?

No, just plain Gnome.

Dunno if it's useful to anyone, but:
I also had this problem, Firefox crashed when opening Preferences all the time when I was using various pixmap-engine gtk themes.
Changing theme helped, but since I didn't want to stop using my favorite theme I decided to try find out what was wrong with the themes that crashed.
I tracked it down to these lines in the ~/.themes/themename/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:
GtkOptionMenu::indicator_size
and
GtkOptionMenu::indicator_spacing
and commented them out. After that the themes and Firefox worked fine together.

I'm getting this same error. Unfortunately, wulax's solution didn't work for me. I'm using kdemod, and i can't find that particular gtkrc file. is it located elsewhere in KDE? any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I just checked to see if running firefox as root would cause the same problem, and, lo and behold, it works fine! so, it must be a setting for my user somewhere, but where?
EDIT: I figured out what the problem was. My Home folder was full. How embarrassing.

Shouldn't crash though. File a bug report to the mozilla guys.

Do I have mail? No idea:
[dick@R50p ~]$ thunderbird -safe-mode
/opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 9416 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
That "safe-mode" thing is a result from my google-ing. Does not work for me

system wide themes are located in /usr/share/themes.
No idea about your firefox error though
