Missing Gnome "Registry" editor in Desktop Prefere

I think when I was using Gnome v2.5 or v2.4, there used to be a tool in the "Desktop Preferences" menu folder where you could manually edit the Gnome settings.  It looked much like a Windows "registry" with keys and such.  I forgot the name of that tool, but it's not showing in my current Gnome v2.6.

Basically, I want to remove all the system icons from my desktop (including the Trash, Home, Computer, and Start Here folders), without having to kill Nautilus.  Using that settings editor in the past worked like a charm, but that tool is missing now.

How can I get that tool or is there a better way to do this?

thanks.

It's gconf-editor (part of the package of the same name).

Or, if you want to be hardcore, use gconftool-2 (from package gconf) to change the settings from the command-line.

Re: Missing Gnome "Registry" editor in Desktop Prefere

Thanks.  I like the hardcore option and I'll check out the Fedora tool as well.  I guess the gconf-editor got installed from another app. I installed.  I thought for sure it would be part of the Gnome standard install.  Whatever the case, that's what I was looking for.

thanks.
