Canon Pixma MP610 drivers and installation

Hi,
I bought Canon Pixma MP610 printer/scanner/copier, but I|m not able to find any drivers for linux. On cd were of course only win and mac drivers....
I've installed TurboPrint, but there are only MP600 series drivers and with using them, the printer takes paper, but doesn't print anything...

Please, are there any drivers or tricks to run MP610 under Linux (including scanning), thx very much

Re: Canon Pixma MP610 drivers and installation

Hi,
Did you try with the MP600 Canon driver available at www.canon-asia.com ?
The page for MP printer drivers is located at http://www.canon-asia.com/index.jsp?fus … country=SG. Choose the MP600 model. Note that there's no driver for MP610 at the moment, but it's worth trying other models drivers.
Also, maybe try some printer drivers (IPxx) available there
Please post your results if you can

Well I tried MP600 drivers and IP4200 too, but they don't work. The printer takes paper, but doesn't print anything on it....I asked on Turboprint for the driver for M610, maybe they'll make it soon smile

Re: Canon Pixma MP610 drivers and installation

IIRC I couldn't get my Cannon Pixma MP780 (ip4200 type print engine, as I understand it) to work until I installed the devel version of gutenprint (was 5.1.0, but I see that 5.1.3 is the current devel version). It uses the "Canon MULTIPASS MP780 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.1.0" driver. But, Tha_Dogg's post sounds hopeful.
Cheers.

Re: Canon Pixma MP610 drivers and installation

Breaking news smile
I asked Turboprint for the driver avaibility and they replied that the driver is planned!

So because of my laziness I think I'll wait for it instead of trying another ones smile

Hi there smile

I'm still fighting to get the scanning part done. Here's what you need to take from canon-asia :

Cheers smile

Is the mp610 scanner part detected by sane (scanimage -L) ?

Did you modify the installed files :

  /etc/udev/rules.d/80-canon_mfp.rules

and

  /usr/lib/bjlib/canon_mfp.conf

to add the mp610 scanner ? (udev needs then to be restarted => better to reboot the computer)

Re: Canon Pixma MP610 drivers and installation

Hi

Just to inform that I've updated the Sane Pixma scanner library, to include MP610.

Available at: http://mp610.blogspot.com

Any feedback appreciated!

Re: Canon Pixma MP610 drivers and installation

Driver works as it should smile No errors found, using xsane 0.994.
Now only I have to solve why the scanner is found only from root account

Ok, good news then ... smile

For scanner access, check in Arch Linux, the groups, permissions of your user account (for instance, in Mandriva, you must be member of group usb to be able to access the scanner), and also the udev rules and the default permissions they set.
