Odd waimea menu-ripperx problem

I setuid on cdparanoia so that i could rip as user with RipperX (chmod u+s cdparanoia). RipperX can be used as user as a result but an odd problem cropped up. Normally i have been able, in the past, to launch RipperX from my menu and use it but right now it will only launch if a cd is not in the cdrom. However, if i launch RipperX from a terminal with a cd in the tray it launches just fine.

I would like to be able to launch it from my menu and not from a terminal, does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this? (Before i botched up my first Arch install it was working as user from the menu but not on this install)

Hmm.. no immediate idea. Isn't there any output on stderr when the launch from the menu fails? Usually on the console where you started X? That might help.

no there are no errors given if i launch it with a cd in the tray it simply does not launch. No errors or given or even clues to why this is happening.

Alright, maybe the BFG of debugging tools will shed some light on this. You could modify your launcher command line to run ripperx with strace in an xterm. THAT will show whatever is happening. Maybe upload the whole output to a website and post the link here.

Re: Odd waimea menu-ripperx problem

I have the same problem sad

A look around the RipperX site gave me this, from the FAQ:

1.  RipperX doesn't start from the Gnome Menu

RipperX won't start from the Gnome menu if there is an audio CD in the drive. I   have no idea why. Workarounds are: start from prompt, or start RipperX without an audio CD in the drive.

looks like it is a known bug.
