[SOLVED]FluxBox

Today I tried installing FluxBox to try out something other than gnome and because I liked the look of the customisability. Unfortunately like the majority of thread starters in the newbie corner Ive been having some difficulties. Running fluxbox-generate_menu reveals that it cannot access /root/.fluxbox/menu. Later on I made the folder my self and got it to generate a menu file. But using startx to load fluxbox results in the default menu. I have uninstalled flux box; rebooted then installed again but it still dosen't work. All I have now is a headache; so I'm counting on you to save me please roll.

Eternally Gratefully,
                             Kernal Panic(pronounced colonel)

Re: [SOLVED]FluxBox

/root/.fluxbox/menu

may be slightly off topic, but are you running flux as root? not a good idea..

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

Re: [SOLVED]FluxBox

how are you starting fluxbox?

As rson said, maybe add a user rather than use root.

Also, I found xdg menu is a better tool than the fluxbox counterpart.

Have you tried marchfluxmenu?

http://code.google.com/p/marchfluxmenu/

It is a combination of a  menu generator and auto-updater, which aims to make your fluxbox menu look & behave something similar to the Gnome Menu!

Re: [SOLVED]FluxBox

smile marchfluxmenu looks very nice, im guessing its your work?  If so its looks very good.

Looks like I'm now going to have to download March Linux to check out your work.  Im a big fan of fluxbox except for the lack of a decent Alt+Tab listing.

Have you thought about marchfluxmenu in aur? (If its there I can't find it)

Thank you for your compliments...it is indeed my work!
Since I'm quite new to programming, it feels nice to hear someone complimenting my works! smile

The current version of March Linux which is available for downloads, doesn't include mfm though.  In fact, ATM I'm working on a new version of March, which will include various new features : tools like mfm and a control center maybe; better selection of packages and most importantly, an installer!
It will be completed as soon as my coding acumen attains  the necessary level! big_smile

As for a PKGBUILD for mfm, I'm not sure it can be done at all, since by design it is 'installed' under the /home dir of current user! sad
