what's the abs for

wanted to know generally whats the abs for
is it compile pkg's from source codes?
and how to use it

let me to know
is it downloads all the pkg's PKGBUILD
and then u need to "cd" to the pkg directory and "makepkg"?
cause that what i did but dunno if it works like that

You copy the directory from your abs tree to somewhere in your home directory, you cd into the directory and you run makepkg -s, You've then got a freshly compiled package. It's very useful when you want to install a newer version or if you want to add a patch or something.
