I recently reinstalled Arch, and everything was going great. My system seemed to be very snappy, and I was quite happy. Now, after a reboot, things have slowed down by a ton. My computer is an AMD 2.6 GHz dual core with 2 gigs of ram. However, gmrun now takes at least 3 seconds to load. 3 seconds isn't a long time I suppose, but for such a small program, it should be almost instant, especially since it takes about the same amount of time even when another instance is running. All other programs are starting a lot slower then they initially did.
The last thing I did was configure openntpd, and add it to rc.conf. I can't imagine this causing the problem. Running htop shows nothing peculiar.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: A quick test leads me to believe that gmrun takes almost the same time to load as firefox. That shouldn't be...

Could it be related to an improperly set up /etc/hosts? (link)

My host name is 'rain'. Here is my hosts file:
#
# /etc/hosts: static lookup table for host names
#
#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost rain
192.168.1.150 rain.storm.com rain
# End of file
EDIT: Another test, urxvt takes about 4 seconds to load, yet running Quake 3 from the terminal almost loads instantly.

I have to admit, I don't really understand the guide's entry and mine looks different. Until someone more knowledgeable comes along, could you give this a try:
127.0.0.1 rain localhost

No change, but thanks for your help.

if the slowness is in KDE, Gnome, or other graphic mode, run "fc-cache -fv", to refresh the font cache.
