Hey,
Recently my backlight on my monitor went out and I've been forced (oh deary me) to use my HDTV as a monitor. The HOWTO XorgHDTV guide on Gentoo's wiki was excellent, and I've messed with my Nvidia settings to get something acceptable (720p looks fine). The only thing holding me back is what appears to be the color depth. It looks like it is in 16 bit color, despite being set in xorg.conf as 24. I'm guessing that doing something like this with HDTV's themselves and about them not being a good monitor. Is this correct? My experiences with using a normal TV as a monitor was that they had a funny color depth as well.
By the way, my tv is an Olevia 232-S12.
