I just got my new laptop up and running with arch and so far everything is going smooth. I still haven't got roaming figured out, but that's tomorrows task. The only other thing is that the wireless light never turns on, even when I'm using the wireless mode. This really is no big deal but if it has a fix, I'd love it.
EDIT - I also can get it to hibernate, but could I get it to do that when I close the lid?

Still not working, but I found another issue. When I plug into headphones, the speakers keep playing and nothing comes out of the headphones. There is no option for headphones in alsamixer.

My Sony VGN-FS has the Intel Sound. You didn't mention what DE you're running...I've only experience with KDE.
klaptop should be in the repos (kdemod it's seperated out) I use it to configure the lid switch. My does to suspend to ram, but there is an option for hibernate as well.
With the speakers, I had to adjust kmix to use "Front" as the "Master" channel. I don't know if that will help with your headphones or not. Mine 'just works', but hopefully it may point you towards something.

Add this to the /etc/modprobe.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model=vaio
I have a Vaio Fz too, FZ11S and I'm struggling with the brightness adjustment. Are you able to change the brightness?
