I was reading this article:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … &px=NjIwMg
On Friday we talked about ATI preparing to release more GPU documentation to the public and without any Non-Disclosure Agreement, and today we have a few new details regarding the specifications for earlier Radeon GPUs. AMD's John Bridgman has posted in this Phoronix Forums thread that he is trying to re-release the GPU specifications for the R100~200 generation of graphics processors. The to be released R300/400 documentation will also assist in further enhancing the Radeon R100/200 driver. John had also mentioned that they will probably be able to assist open-source developers in any questions that they have for even older ATI GPUs as well (ATI Rage era).
I have a laptop, the Compaq Evo n800v, which came with the Mobility 7500 graphics chip, with 64mb of RAM (I think). Anyways, I am replacing this laptop's hard drive and I read that I had to use the open source driver for it and read how some people were having problems with FPS on it. I don't plan on playing any games, but I did want to run Compiz-Fusion on it, so this is great news for me. I just wanted to share this information and to say that I am a really happy Linux and Arch user. I am glad to see the progress made, where we will have this full support from ATI.

WOW, that's really good news!! I'm using a Compaq Evo N1050v with the very same graphics chip as you...

Yep.. At least good thing is coming of the AMD/ATI deal. They're starting to warm up to linux on the video drivers. About time too... fglrx has been behind nvidia for a while.

Ohh yeah, ohh yeah, if this is true I'll hold a party.. I could easily play older 3d games on this radeon 7500 mobility, but the linux drivers lag too much.
This might make my laptop usable for a lot longer.

I remember back when my laptop was still with a good hard drive, I would play a lot of MAME games on it; well I had a lot of MAME games, but mostly just played Marvel vs Capcom with my friends. :^D
