is aiglx needed for gaming?
do I need to have aiglx setup for playing a game like planeshift? I used to be able to play that game fairly well. Now it seems I only get endless lag. Yes i do understand that planeshift had an update that made most things worse.

AIGLX is not required for Planeshift. If anything, it'll probably make it slower.

ok then maybe just getting a better faster computer will help then? seems to be the only solution i can think of

512 mb memory, 40 gig hard drive (ide), nvidia Quadro2 MXR/EX/Go w/ 32 MB cache, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ cpu
also, Does compiz fusion require aiglx?
