Can't speak for the VGA card but the wireless card works nicely with the IWL3945 driver which is included in the latest archlinux installer and is avaible as a package in the repos.
A quick tip though. The IWL3945 driver is new and therefor migth be buggy, some reports has been made but they seem to fix it rather quickly.
If you encounter a problem that cannot be resolved easily you migth atleast consider using the old IPW3945 module+userspace daemon.
Though the IWL3945 driver is to be recommended as it eliminates the need for a userspace daemon.

You'll be fine with both of those. The only problem I had with the x3100 and compiz was that I had to edid the ~/.config/compiz folder and tell it to skip the check for supported cards. It's blacklisted because you can't watch videos with compiz on though I don't know if it's still that way. Other than that it worked fine.

Check the laptop's components before the laptop itself. Go with Intel's components (wireless & video). I have a X3100 video and 4965 wireless, and they both work great. I can even play games with my video card (not the latest though, as they might use some opengl extension not (yet) in the driver).

Shouldn't I suppose that any laptop that is Linux friendly is also Arch friendly?
I mean, I have heard that Zbobontu has a good wifi support, but obviously the same can be achieved in any other distribution with some work..
