Reset font settings etc after killing X

Before starting X with start x everything looks fine. But when I kill X the fonts doesn't go back to the same. And the whole resolution seems to be wrong (text and promt i going outside the screen at the bottom). How do I reset the settings to normal when i kill X?

Are you using a CRT or LCD?  If LCD, could it be the monitor is not auto adjusting???

Re: Reset font settings etc after killing X

Using LCD, but I don't think that's the problem. I have tried manually auto-adjusting the screen and it didn't work.
It seems that the settings x-server sets remains after killing it, in other words they're not restored to normal properly. It happens whether I kill x by doing ctrl+alt+backspace or do it through the logout button (in openbox). There must be a way to automatically initialize the default settings stored in rc.conf?

Is there anyone else that have the same problem?

Re: Reset font settings etc after killing X

Try to change the console framebuffer size and see if that fixes the issue.  Also, what happens when you access a virtual console from X?  Same?

Re: Reset font settings etc after killing X

If you by "accessing a virtual console"  mean ctrl+alt+(F1-F6) then thats the same after X have started.
And how do I change the framebuffer size after the computer have started? Isn't that only possible from the grub menu?

Thanks for trying to help.

Re: Reset font settings etc after killing X

Okej, I did get it somewhat wrong so I take it in steps.

First started up the computer and logged in as normal user. The font changed during the boot-process (changed to the font in rc.conf).
I then started X (startx).
Then changed (ctrl+alt+F5) and logged in as root (still console). The fonts seemed to be the same as before the change mentioned during the boot-process, except for the the text going outside the screen at the bottom.
I then did setfont, and the "resolution" problem got fixed. But still not the fonts original fonts.

I guess it could work if i passed some arguments to setfont, even though it isn't really a solution. How do I make it automatic? Or how do I make X only change the current console, and also reset it efter.

Yes, from menu.lst.  Also, are you using a wide screen LCD monitor?  Is it a laptop?

Re: Reset font settings etc after killing X

Problem solved smile
In rc.conf I changed back the consolefont to default, and now it works. It think it could have been because it had a smaller font-size than the default.
Anyway, thanks for the help, and for pointing me in the right direction.

Somehow I missed that you changed your console font settings to begin with, LOL.  I have to lay off the cold medicine wink
