Alas, it doesn't read like one...

Games typically don't run on VMWare. You'll need wine for that, or even Cedega or Crossover (though I've been told Cedega sucks. Well, I don't mind).

To play relatively new games, Cedega is by far the easiest way.  It requires a subscription fee, or you can compile it for yourself, and get a few less features.  It's worth the fee if you consider yourself a gamer, as it just streamlines the whole process.

Games will play underneath apps like Wine still, but it can be difficult for modern games, and can require lots of workarounds.  I only play games occasionally, and when I do they're pretty old (Starcraft, warcraft, doom, etc) so wine is more than capable to suit my needs.

Forget about VMWare for gaming as it does not do 3D accelerated graphics.  Wine is pretty decent for most games, but as another poster mentioned, Cedega is a lot easier to manage.  I subscribed at one point to it, and it was well worth it.

I usely play games with Cedega. Works fine.

For apps I mostly use VMware. You can use virtualbox aswell. If you have the right cpu the virtualstuff mostly has 90% performance. Pretty good.
