[fixed] xfce usbstick no icon anymore

After recent xfce update there isn't an icon on the xfce desktop when I plug in my usbstick anymore. Does anyone else have the same issue?

permissions of the device file:
brw-rw---- 1 root storage 8, 1 2007-12-06 00:44 /dev/sda1

my user as well as the hal user are in the storage group.

I tried to run xfce as root too, same issue.

The only issue I encountered was that it the first time took a while longer for it to be mounted. After that it goes as quick as before.

does it appear in thunar sidepane?
Maybe you just have to F5, no?

Re: [fixed] xfce usbstick no icon anymore

Thanks for all these answers.

@nDray: no, it doesn't appear in the sidepane. And f5 doesn't help neither.

I tried to format the usbstick also with ext3. Same issue....   Damn hmm

edit:
I installed gnome to test whether the usbstick is detected in there. Also not working. So this problem is not related to xfce. But what else!? CD's are working fine, so there can't be an issue with hal or dbus...

after removing /usr/share/hal/fdi  /etc/hal  and reinstalling hal it's working again.

Re: [fixed] xfce usbstick no icon anymore

I find that gparted places a 'disable automount' HAL policy in /usr/share/hal/fdi when it is started. If gparted does not close properly, then that file is left behind which disables the detection of new devices.

I read about this file in some other threads. But hal still didn't work correctly after deleting this file.

Re: [fixed] xfce usbstick no icon anymore

The file you mention is

rm /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/gparted-disable-automount.fdi

Thank you very much for this tip! smile
