here's my scenario .
original config:
/boot is /dev/discs/disc0/part1 ext2
swap is part2
/ is part3 ext3
i wanted to use reiserfs so i made a reiserfs partition on another drive.
/dev/discs/disc1/part1
booted on a cd (system rescue cd)
mounted my / ext3 and my new reiserfs
did a cp -Raxv *
added an entry in the menu.lst file
booted to my newly created partition . all was running ok. you can tell the difference in speed between ext3 and reiserfs
so i made the decision to make my / ext3 to reiserfs
did the whole thing over but backwards
booted . grub error 18
so i did a grub-install so grub can recognize the new filesystem
booted to it, it worked.
had it shut off for the night, this morning i booted my comp and the wonderful "GRUB" all over my screen looping infinitely.
any help would be appreciated.
side notes: installed lilo and upon booting i get
L 02 02 02 02 and so on ...

im ok now. i fixed my own problem. setup (hd0) is using wrong options for the install command. so i used install manually in grub.
