Hi.
I'm trying to set up Archlinux on an Asus V6J with 1G RAM from the Arch Linux 2007.08 ("Don't Panic") CD.
This is my existing partition setup.
Disk /dev/sda: 80.0GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos
Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 32.3kB 6440MB 6440MB primary ntfs
2 6440MB 14.0GB 7518MB primary ext3
3 14.0GB 23.6GB 9656MB primary ext3 boot
4 23.6GB 80.0GB 56.4GB extended
11 23.6GB 25.8GB 2155MB logical linux-swap
5 25.8GB 36.5GB 10.7GB logical ntfs
6 36.5GB 47.2GB 10.7GB logical ntfs
7 47.2GB 58.0GB 10.7GB logical ntfs
8 58.0GB 63.3GB 5371MB logical ntfs
9 63.3GB 68.7GB 5363MB logical ntfs
10 68.7GB 80.0GB 11.3GB logical ntfs
I have a WinXP installation in 1 and Ubuntu 7.06 in 3.
While trying to install Arch in 3, i'm encountering the following error with the partition tool (cfdisk):
FATAL ERROR: Bad logical partition 11: enlarged logical partition overlap
I could find a similar topic but that does not say how the problems are to be dealt with.
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=273748
Running the parted command check as was done in the mentioned topic yields similar results.
as the "check 2" commands reports Error: File system has an incompatible feature enabled.
Do i need to make changes to the partition structure?
Thanks
Abhik

Your XP is in the very first partition and works? Then get rid of all other partitions and think of a sane setup, 1 gig for swap, 10 for / and the rest for /home or so.

Thanks for your suggestion but i'm afraid i really don't understand why you'd suggest me to do that.
My existing XP and Ubuntu installations work very well and i do not see any reason to mess with them. I want to install Arch in the 2nd partition. That's all.
What do you mean by a sane setup? Please explain.
All i have is 4 primary partitions and a few logical ones, this is a perfectly reasonable setup. I fail to see what this particular partition structure has to do with the installation issues.
And, 2G of swap had been allocated as every Linux installation instruction manual advises to set swap size to twice the physical RAM.
Thanks
