I have looked all around for this, but havent found it elsewhere, and am an archlinux newbie, so:
i tried installing kdemod using
pacman -S kdemod-complete
but it comes up with
:: Retrieving packages from extra...
error : failed retrieving file 'libraw1396-1.2.1-1.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.rez-gif.supelec.fr : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
error : failed retrieving file 'qca-1.0-3.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.rez-gif.supelec.fr : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
error : failed retrieving file 'qca-tls-1.0-3.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.rez-gif.supelec.fr : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
error : failed retrieving file 'tptcl-4.15-1.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.rez-gif.supelec.fr : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
warning: failed to retrieve some files from extra
error : failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
I have tried pacman-Sy first with no luck.
Can anybody help me?

perhaps change your mirrors. And make sure you're root. Also do a pacman -Syu first, and see if that works.

It is not a pacman problem. You should really read this:
http://kdemod.ath.cx/installation.html

Yes I followed the instructions on kdemod.ath.cx. I did do a pacman -Syu first, sorry i forgot to mention this. I have also tried the other mirror it suggests on kdemod.ath.cx, but had the same problem.
(edit): just to explain what i did about the mirrors, I also tried using the rankmirrors script for all the files in /etc/pacman.d/. Are these mirrors that are the problem? i also changed the mirror in /etc/pacman.conf to the other one in the instructions on kdemod.ath.cx, but as i said had the same problem.
thanks

If you are only getting the error w/ the extra repo, then try a different extra mirror. Ranking the mirrors is only going to show which one is "fastest" but not necessarily a mirror that is up-to-date.

sorry i dont quite understand (never used arch before...). I think that kdemod has its own repository, which i added into /etc/pacman.conf. so this mirror was not ranked, i just did that as a precaution. i did try changing the mirror to the other one suggested by kdemod.ath.cx/installation.html, but had the same problem. As far as I know there are no other mirrors. that would suggest that the problem is not with the mirrors, as neither works... but i dont really understand this.

But the errors you are getting are for packages from extra repo not the kde-mod repo. Try changing the extra repo server in /etc/pacman.d/extra (the server that's highest on the list is checked first).

yaay that seems to have worked. Thanks people. Although it would suggest that a number of mirrors do not have the packages; i had to try quite a few before i found one that worked.
