Sound = Zero (Sound fixed :D)

Well, I've been having this sound issue for a week or so now, and was hoping somebody could give me more troubleshooting tips tongue. The problem is as follows: I get no sound, whatsoever.
Fix attempts:
1.) Unmute everything in alsamixer
Result: N/A
2.) Turn up sound 100% in alsamixer (I *know* it's a bad idea)
Result: Fuzziness coming from my speakers (they detect it), but no sound outputs when I run any sound file.
3.) Attempt to run a .wav file with aplay
Result: Nothing
4.) Attempt to run an mpeg file with <insert various players here>.
Result: Picture, no sound.
5.) Attempt to run a wmv file with <as above>.
Result: No picture or sound.
6.) Ran lsmod.
Result: All necessary modules *appear* to be present
7.) Checked modprobe.conf
Result: hda-intel is present (sound and card)
8.) Downloaded new kernel and rebooted
Result: No dice.
9.) Checked to make sure alsa deamon was input in rc.conf
Result: It's there.
10.) Attempted to run media files as root
Result: My computer hates me.
11.) Installed/Uninstalled the esd daemon
Result: Still Nothing.
X.) Ripped hair out.
Result: Baldness.

Any other ideas? I get the feeling that PEBKAC is responsible, but thus far, the problem hasn't been isolated. Let me know if there's any output info I should post to help tongue.

P.S. aplay worked fine immediately after installing Arch. I think I may be missing a library of some sort

Re: Sound = Zero (Sound fixed :D)

what kernel version are u using? I have read a few other articles on here that said something about a recent update to the kernel caused a lot of people sound problems.

Have you done a full system upgrade in the past week?

pacman -Syyu

sry, I didn't read option 8 when I posted.

Re: Sound = Zero (Sound fixed :D)

Wow, I fixed it, somehow. My sound jack was in the wrong port (I have six), but I had definately tried that before, and got nothing. So I'm not sure which option of those fixed it along the way tongue. Now all I need is a fix for my wmv videos big_smile.
