timidity needs esd?

peets ~ > timidity
timidity: error while loading shared libraries: libesd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I don't have gnome installed. I don't have esd, and don't have libesd. Why does this bother timidity? I just want to play a midi file!

Re: timidity needs esd?

Well, it seems Arch's version of timidity is compiled against esd. This does not mean it really runs against esd, it's just a compiled in functionality and the executable is therefore linked against the library. Well, yeah... you have two options: compile it yourself, without esd, or install esd just for the sake of having the library around.

By the way, I think this should probably be filed as a bug report. Depending on esd is rather nostalgic - it's really obsolete...

Guy #2: Dude, I'd hit that so hard whoever could pull me out would become the King of England.

Re: timidity needs esd?

Hooray for ABS! I compiled it locally and it works fine. I also filed a bug report. Thanks Mantaar.
