I installed Urxvt and I was surprised that it needed GCC as a dependency. Since I try to maintain a minimalist Arch install, I was wondering if anyone knows why it needs GCC?

@Agent69: Apparently, the PKGBUILD from which the rxvt-unicode package is built from still has gcc as a dependency, but it looks like the devs are working on changing that soon.
Not sure if that totally answers your question, but the link (i hope) should give you an idea about it.

not only that but since gcc-libs is part of base it might be skipped and depend only on libxft
edit: still even if u try to maintain a minimalist Arch install i cant see how u can achieve that without having most packages from the base-devel group installed.

There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

I would have to check when I get home but as far as I know, I don't have much if any of base-devel installed.
EDIT: Thanks Delphiki.
