error: unresolvable dependencies: and IgnorePkg

my pacman.conf has:

[options]
LogFile     = /var/log/pacman.log
NoUpgrade   = etc/passwd etc/group etc/shadow etc/X11/XF86Config
NoUpgrade   = etc/fstab etc/raidtab
NoUpgrade   = etc/rc.conf etc/rc.local etc/inittab
NoUpgrade   = etc/modprobe.conf etc/modules.conf
NoUpgrade   = etc/lilo.conf boot/grub/menu.lst
NoUpgrade   = etc/pacman.conf
IgnorePkg   = xfree86
IgnorePkg   = gdm samba mono mysql cgoban2 blender
IgnorePkg   = kernel26 qt mplayer
IgnorePkg   = x
IgnorePkg   = kdebase kdetoys kdeutils kdevelop kdegames kdeadmin kdeartwork
IgnorePkg   = kdenetwork kdepim kdeedu kdebindings kdeaddons kdemultimedia
IgnorePkg   = kdeaccessibility kdelibs

when I do pacman -Syu
I get:

error: unresolvable dependencies:
  kdeartwork: requires kdebase=3.2.2
  kdenetwork: requires kdebase=3.2.2

I really don't understand why kdenetwork and kdeartwork don't get skipped. I have removed most of the KDE, I have some kde for kppp, which I'm going to remove with http://xisp.hellug.gr [tha static binary works]
but anyways i cannot really find out why this happens. thanks for your help

Re: error: unresolvable dependencies: and IgnorePkg

probably because of a change in package dependencies and how your current setup is. you have likely and unwittingly created a dependecy loop. it will happen on rare occasions.

Not so rare, it is the second time it happens to me with KDE.

And arts-1.2.3-1.pkg.tar.gz is corrupted. I am stuck.

Re: error: unresolvable dependencies: and IgnorePkg

try purging your system of all but the needed few kde packages. then remove the ignores you have and then upgrade ... or just leave your system without kde. one of the reasons it may not be "rare" for kde is because of the frequent changes in maintainers of the packages and so far each has brought their own personal or necessary touches to it.  that being said if you were thinking about purging ti from your system then now would be the best time.

one final note for very interrelated package sets such as gnome and kde it is not always the best course of action not to place packages in the ignore section of pacman.conf. more often than not you can get killed in depends alone not keeping everything at par.  (i found this out using debian, trying to be selective with gnome or kde was always a killer)

Re: error: unresolvable dependencies: and IgnorePkg

thanks sarah31. I still don't understand though why pacman doesn't say the real pkg that needs those stuff..

anyways I'm trashing KDE and Mattias Errich [I like the guy I don't like the idea having KDE in my box anymore] out! tongue

the last app I used (kppp) burned in hell by static-binary xisp.hellug.gr

Re: error: unresolvable dependencies: and IgnorePkg

sarah31, your words are what I needed to carry out what I was thinking about since one month ago: purging KDE.

I will reinstall it when it stabilizes a bit more.

Thanks  smile
