Keyboard after UDev uevents stops responding.

Hello.

I have just installed (well, a few times now..) Arch Duke (not Panic because of arch-addons/NTFS issue). Selected only Basic packages, changed hostname and dhcp settings, selected en_US.utf8 locale.

At kernel installation I got warning that "current locale is invalid, using default "C" locale".

After installation, on booting, at "UDev uevents" my simple PS/2 keyboard (MS Natural without any multimedia-stuff) stoped responding ( I was pushing "Num Lock" repeatedly to check that). I can't login, or anything...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Keyboard after UDev uevents stops responding.

What happens when you try a USB keyboard (if you have one handy)?

I actually had something similar happen on an IBM NetVista box that I found in my dad's scrapheap (guess that's why it was in the scrapheap); the PS/2 port basically accepted one keystroke and then stopped working... but that was for all OS's, and even CMOS setup. I'm guessing that's not what's happened to you?

- Try booting the -fallback image; see if that does anything.

- Linux seems able to take a PS/2 keyboard hot plug-in (I was always told you couldn't do that with PS/2 devices) -- try unplugging it and plugging it back in, then try booting with it not plugged in at all and plug it in at the login screen. If I boot with no keyboard or a USB keyboard and then plug my PS/2 in, it detects it and I see a line about it in my dmesg.

Thanks for replay.

Keyboard works with other oses (WinXp, Ubuntu), so I doubt it's CMOS problem.

OK, I'm gonna try fallback ant hotpluging...

I have just installed Don't Panic (thanks aka_arch fro NTFS issue fix), but the problem remains...

Maybe it's because my keyboard is manufactured by Microsoft? big_smile

Talkless did you try unplugging and re-inserting the keyboard after it stops responding.(without re-setting the machine)

Yes, I did...

I have also tried another keyboard - it just freeses. If I turn on NumLoc, for example, it keeps glowing all the time.

I am getting really fed of it. It's sad I can't try out Arch at home...

Re: Keyboard after UDev uevents stops responding.

If the Arch Install Disk worked for you during the installation process, then the Install/Rescue disk is doing _something_ right, and you have to find out what it is doing.  If your keyboard stops working during udev's initialization, I would suggest you boot into the Install/Rescue Arch CD, execute a "lsmod", and open up /etc/rc.conf and add all the modules you see that you do not know the function of to the MODULES line.  If you know what a module does, and you know that you do not need it in order for your keyboard to work, then you do not need to add it.

Re: Keyboard after UDev uevents stops responding.

I have the same (or a similar) problem. I succeeded in installing Archlinux, but am now stuck at the KDE log in with neither ps2 keyboard nor Logitech LX5 cordless optical mouse working. I have been googling around but cannot really find any solution for this ... very frustrating! Can somebody give me a solution or a suggestion ...?

Ok, solved!! The solution (in my case) was to install two packages as can be read here :
