How to free memory before hibernation?

Hi,

I wanted to decrease the startup time after hibernating (I use pm-utils' pm-hibernate). There's little to optimize, so I tried to reduce the used memory.

I did a

sync
echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

But there are still about 266MB of buffers/cache according to free. I use OpenBox and have only xmms2d, geany, urxvt and currently Opera running, running daemons are syslog-ng, acpid, network and alsa - I don't think they use that much memory.

Do you know any other ways to free more memory before hibernating?

Edit: After closing Opera I could free an additional 60MB...but 200MB caches (+25MB used memory not in buffers/caches) for an empty desktop is still a bit much...
