azureus doesn't apply update

it shows me always the update version related to the core
i download the jar file, then i restart
nothing, it will appear again
i even ran it as root, i completed the download of the jar file, i restarted...
and again the window showing me the update
how do i fix that?
by the way, azureus works great...no problem to claim, except that annoying window
thanks for the help and interest

Re: azureus doesn't apply update

I always just download the .jar file from azureus's site and cp to /usr/share/java/Azureus2.jar

Re: azureus doesn't apply update

this isn't a linux problem I can tell u that. I had this exact same issue in windows and the reason why I set azureus packing in exchange for another torrent client.

More of a question for the azureus forums and the azureus team.

hmmph, that doesn't mean it didn't happen to me. I can assure u, it happened on more then one occasion.

each user will have different results. Who knows, I never had sp2 installed for plenty of reasons. Maybe that's why? Just like the reason why I can't have lib32-glibc 2.7 installed and others can and have no problems. Its all independent based on multiple reasons. Just because u never had the problem doesn't mean its not an azureus problem.

Re: azureus doesn't apply update

I didn't say it couldn't or didn't. I believe you.

The reason why  stated what I did, was it could very much be an arch/linux problem, or a azurues problem, or even a windows problem.

But this happens when ever I have tried to let azurues update on every arch install I have and ever have had on different pcs w/ different hardware, but yet never on any of my xp boxes.

Re: azureus doesn't apply update

Every package you install with pacman ends up somewhere in /usr or /opt, right? Does that seem like a location to you, where the azureus process, running as normal user, could write to?

Re: azureus doesn't apply update

byte, he already mentioned that he run azureus as a root, too.
I had this problem, too. Basically the best is to disable the updates and wait for the arch package to get updated when new azureus version rolls out.

Re: azureus doesn't apply update

I had this problem all the time and there are other threads on this forum about the same thing.  Updates through the azureus GUI are probably ideal for windows which doesn't have giant repositories that are supposed to take care of every program, but Linux distros do.  My guess is pacman puts azureus related files in areas where the azureus developers didn't expect.

To be sure you can find the azureus PKGBUILD in /var/abs to see exactly what the pacman install is doing.  And best of all when there is a new version, just use that PKGBUILD to compile and install a pacman compliant package of azureus.  I did this for awhile but now I prefer BitTyrant from the AUR.  It's a strategic client that is just like azureus 2.5.  It doesn't have regular updates to the code base, yet I find it much faster than the newest version of azureus.

Re: azureus doesn't apply update

Here's your work around to get going:

Download - Azureus3.0.4.2.jar -

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/azureu … g_mirror=0

Azureus stores it's .jar file in /usr/share/java on arch.

Rename or move the old .jar file - and save the new one there as Azureus3.jar.

Then run Azureus as normal and get on with life.  Cheers.
