I just installed KDEmod for the first time. I have been using fluxbox and fvwm before, and always gkrellm for system monitoring.
But with KDEmod KSysGuard came automatically installed, so I used that first to see first of all how much memory was used. And it was higher than I had expected.
When writing this it is now about:
307 Mb used and 336 Mb free
So I wanted to check it using gkrellm which is now giving me this result:
630 MB in total and 504 MB free
And then I noticed there is difference in the number of processes as well:
Ksysguard: 73
gkrellm: 79
Another detail is the total amount of memory and swap which is also different between the two. I thought maybe that has just to do with the way it calculates it since the difference is not so great.
But a difference in memory free of 168 Mb is big, and the difference in number of processes I find strange.
Maybe I'm missing something since I'm still new at this. I hope someone can tell why this is, since I would like to actually see how much memory is used.

Forgot to say that all this is because I am trying out WM's and DE's for putting on other computers, that has less ram. And because I am using this computer for gaming and therefore want to see if it is ok for me to use KDEmod on this one, and still have enough ram for my games.

I seen the same difference between gnome and conky. Gnome system monitor said one thing well conky said another.
As far as the memory goes, it could be that one is adding in the buffers to the used part, that would increase that value quite a lot. I only know this because in conky u can explicitly tell it not to add in the buffers and cached values to the used memory value.
try
free -m
and then compare your same results to gkrellm and ksysguard

Thanks I didn't know about that..
I got more understandable results using that!
