No direct rendering using open source ati driver

I just got Arch up and running for the first time.  I'm using KDEmod as my DE.  During installation, I installed xf86-video-ati because I use a 9500 Pro, and I let xorg -configure configure my xorg.conf file.  During the initial install using the beginners guide on the wiki, I installed libgl because it said it was necessary if I was using the open source driver, and I installed mesa because it told me too.  Well, for whatever reason, I'm not getting direct rendering.  Take a look.

Hi,
it seems that the bus id specified in xorg.conf is wrong; the log file says:

(WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found

Try to change that setting to:

BusID       "PCI:1:0:1"

also add this option in device section:

 Option "DRI" "true"

Re: No direct rendering using open source ati driver

Alright, here is what happened.  I rebooted the machine without doing anything and it (as far as I know) loaded the driver.  I'm pretty sure it did load the driver because my computer hard froze while it was loading the desktop.  It did the exact same thing using the open source driver when I was running Ubuntu.  I tried making the changes you suggested just to see if it would change anything, and it didn't.  The open source driver hard froze my computer before the desktop loaded again.

I decided instead I'd just switch to fglrx because, while I couldn't get 3d to work with it in Ubuntu, at least it didn't crash my computer before the desktop loaded.  I logged in as root and did pacman -R xf86-video-ati.  That went off without a hitch.  Next, I did pacman -S catalyst (as the beginner's guide told me to do.)  It told me that libgl would cause conflicts and asked if I would like to remove it, so I did.  I then installed the catalyst package.  Next, I rm'ed my xorg.conf file and ran Xorg -configure again.  It detected the fglrx driver okay so I rebooted to see if it worked.

When I run glxinfo, this is what I get.

I don't mean to be a bother, but I'm pretty new to Linux and am now really sure how to fix this.

Try to add these lines to xorg.conf:

Section "DRI"
    Group 0
    Mode 0666
EndSection

and add your user to video group (run this command as root):

gpasswd <your_username> video

You must logout and login again
