I've just discovered that Totem is not able to play any of the DivX-encoded movies here. Surely there are DivX and AVI plugins for GST 0.10 somewhere?
Offline
Have you installed the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg package?
Might want to try totem-xine which will work too.
Offline
Yep, gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is installed. And totem-xine is not really usable right now, since some bizarre bug is causing it to redraw very very slowly and point-blank refuse to play things that I know Xine can handle.
Offline
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg does it for me. I've downloaded th first of those movies, and it plays fine. Without the ffmpeg plugin, I get the usual message about missing plugins.
Offline
Weird... I'm using totem-xine 1.4.0-2 (the last one available in the archlinux.org repo) and I tried the Singularity AVI, worked fine here...
Offline
Aha... Here is my problem:
Totem could not play 'http://www.3dwallpaper.com/movies/singularity-divx.avi'.
Cannot play this file over the network. Try downloading it to disk first.
WTF?

Weird indeed, "totem http://www.3dwallpaper.com/movies/singularity-divx.avi" worked fine here... Maybe you need some GnomeVFS plugin or something?

I allways have problems to have totem play movies. Most times, it just plays the sound. Hm, might be enough for porn - allthough I think sound is not the strongest part of such a kind of moving pictures - but not enough for really interesting movies.

It's installed too.

Don't have problems playing Ogg Theora movies, nor WMVs. Quicktime files sometimes do weird things though, and often aren't able to stream even if I can play them from the HDD. Similarly, the Singularity animation and other DivX AVIs play fine from the drive, but can't stream.

But I didn't use totem with gstreamer to play it, I used the xine version.

I don't use the Xine version because a) having two multimedia engines installed is redundant and b) totem-xine suffers from a whole bunch of weird bugs - for example, it refuses to play WMVs that it shouldn't have a problem with, redraws the screen very slowly, and uses an incredible amount of CPU time.
As for packages I have installed:

I'm opposite - I use xine because gstreamer gave me more problems (It gave me some DVD problems a while ago, and I couldn't figure out how to make the proprietary codecs work with gstreamer as pitfdll only worked with gst 0.8 the last time I tried it... So wmv's were only playing audio with gst here)
Offline
Anyone figured out what is happening? I've still got this problem.
Offline
Huh, this is funny... Totem seems capable of streaming WMVs perfectly. :?
Offline
The solution is:
pacman -S gstreamer0.10-ugly
Which installs /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstasf.so
Offline
Too bad it took him almost 2 years to get that answer
