undefined mimetype

I am having problems with cups, kde hangs sometimes, The system just isn't working like it used to. I did a pacman -Syu and crashed the system. Finally had to wipe and reload the system. I am finally able to use things but not well. I have been looking at files till my head is fuzzy. I found x-session errors that
xset:  bad font path element (#99), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
startkde: Starting up...
kbuildsycoca running...
DCOP Cleaning up dead connections.
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: NP_GetValue
nspluginscan: WARNING: Plugin doesn't implement NP_GetValue
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: NP_GetMIMEDescription
I get lots of lines like the following having WARNING  and ending with mimetype/service type undefined.
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: '/usr/share/applications/gqview.desktop'
specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'image/bmp'
and there is a lot of the following
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode:  19
  Minor opcode:  0
  Resource id:  0x2200006
fifo_audio_out: audio buffer underflow!
fifo_audio_out: audio buffer underflow!
when booting the system there is a line about lib/libpam.so.0 undefined for cups.  Where do I go to find out how to fix this mess? There are just too many files to go through and I don't want to try fixing something just to screw 3 others up.
