FATAL: module iwl4965 not found[SOLVED]

When booting from the CD to install Arch it detected and "installed" my intel 4965 wireless NIC just fine.  However, now that I have arch installed it is giving me the error above.  How can I go about grabbing the module off of the install disc and getting it running on my machine?  Thanks for your time in advance.

Re: FATAL: module iwl4965 not found[SOLVED]

I guess you have to install the relevant packages:

pacman -Sy iwlwifi iwlwifi-4965-ucode

Should you have no other option than wireless then you may want to boot into your system from your install disc.

The point is that I'm not sure the driver is supplied as a package in the install CD. I may be wrong.

Re: FATAL: module iwl4965 not found[SOLVED]

Ok, I just reinstalled from CD and it loads fine.  Thanks for the help.  Is there something special I need to do to get it to connect to a WPA secured wireless network?  In my rc.conf I have the following:

lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="dhcp"
wlan0="dhcp"
wlan_wlan0="wlan0 essid mySSID key s:mypassword"
WLAN_INTERFACES=(wlan0)
INTERFACES=(lo !eth0 wlan0)

However, on boot the wlan0 times out, I take it this is because I am not doing something correctly in regards to the WPA authentication?  Thanks for your time.

Re: FATAL: module iwl4965 not found[SOLVED]

You need to configure /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf and your network profile.
I'd recommend this article to give you some clues.

There's a new version of netcfg in testing at the moment, it brings further improvements and simplicity. I'd encourage you to try it. Have a look at this to know a bit more.

Finally, this may be helpful as well.

Re: FATAL: module iwl4965 not found[SOLVED]

Ok, well that was very helpful.  Thank you for your help and just so you don't think I wasn't trying on my own I was indeed already reading two of the links you gave me smile  It ended up being fairly simply so for the record all that was required was creating a profile in /etc/network-profiles by copying the template in that directory and editing the relevent information.  I also uncommented USEWPA="yes", WPAOPTS="", AUTOWPA="yes", and PASSKEY="mypasskey".  Then I removed all the wlan stuff from my rc.conf I added earlier, inlcuding the wlan0 entry in INTERFACES and finally uncommented the NET_PROFILES=(home) line and replaced 'home' with my ssid.  Then reboot and it works like a charm.  Thanks again for your help bangkok.

would you be so kind and show complete content regading network from /etc/rc.conf and content of /etc/network-profiles/your-file

I already built menu, have 2 options: LAN dhcp ( for LAN in office) and trying to add wlan home (for wlan usage at home where I have wpa-psk)
when I make manual configuration i.e. script then it works properly but from menu I got always problem to connect to AP
And I cannot find where the problem in config file is

thanks in advance

EDITED:
I moved to netcfg2 and it is ok now

Re: FATAL: module iwl4965 not found[SOLVED]

Ok here is my rc.conf:

#
# /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
#

#
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# LOCALIZATION
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# LOCALE: available languages can be listed with the 'locale -a' command
# HARDWARECLOCK: set to "UTC" or "localtime"
# TIMEZONE: timezones are found in /usr/share/zoneinfo
# KEYMAP: keymaps are found in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps
# CONSOLEFONT: found in /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts (only needed for non-US)
# CONSOLEMAP: found in /usr/share/kbd/consoletrans
# USECOLOR: use ANSI color sequences in startup messages
#
LOCALE="en_US.utf8"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE="Canada/Pacific"
KEYMAP="us"
CONSOLEFONT=
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"

#
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# HARDWARE
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# Scan hardware and load required modules at bootup
MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
# Module Blacklist - modules in this list will never be loaded by udev
MOD_BLACKLIST=()
#
# Modules to load at boot-up (in this order)
#   - prefix a module with a ! to blacklist it
#
MODULES=(e1000 iwl4965 snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-hda-intel soundcore)
# Scan for LVM volume groups at startup, required if you use LVM
USELVM="no"

#
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# NETWORKING
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
HOSTNAME="me"
#
# Use 'ifconfig -a' or 'ls /sys/class/net/' to see all available
# interfaces.
#
# Interfaces to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each interface then list in INTERFACES
# - prefix an entry in INTERFACES with a ! to disable it
# - no hyphens in your interface names - Bash doesn't like it
#
# Note: to use DHCP, set your interface to be "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp")
#
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(lo !eth0)
#
# Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each route then list in ROUTES
# - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
#
gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)
#
# Enable these network profiles at boot-up. These are only useful
# if you happen to need multiple network configurations (ie, laptop users)
# - set to 'menu' to present a menu during boot-up (dialog package required)
# - prefix an entry with a ! to disable it
#
# Network profiles are found in /etc/network-profiles
#
NET_PROFILES=(wifiProfile)

#
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# DAEMONS
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
#   - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
# - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
#
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond alsa)

# End of file

Then the file "wifiProfile" residing in /etc/network-profiles is:

#
# Network Profile
#

DESCRIPTION="Home Wireless Network"

# Network Settings
INTERFACE=wlan0
HOSTNAME=me

# Interface Settings (use IFOPTS="dhcp" for DHCP)
IFOPTS="dhcp"
#GATEWAY=192.168.0.1

# DNS Settings (optional)
#DOMAIN=localdomain
#DNS1=192.168.0.1
#DNS2=

# Wireless Settings (optional)
ESSID=myWifi
#KEY=
#IWOPTS="mode managed essid $ESSID channel 6 key restricted $KEY"

#WIFI_INTERFACE=wlan0 # use this if you have a special wireless interface
                        # that is linked to the real $INTERFACE

#WIFI_WAIT=5 # seconds to wait for the wireless card to
                        # associate before bringing the interface up
USEWPA="yes"           # start wpa_supplicant with the profile
WPAOPTS="" # use "" for normal operation or specify additional
                        # options (eg, "-D ipw")
                        # see /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf for configuration
AUTOWPA="yes"          # automatically configure WPA
PASSKEY="secretPassword" # wpa passkey/phrase. for use with AUTOWPA

So there you have it, hope it helps.
