new ipod....H+ or reformat

Just wondering is the kernel has Hfs and hfsplus support options compiled in.  I have dissabled journaling on the ipod device, but want to know if i need to format it to fat32.

Still trying to work out the new libgpod and hash fix for the new generation ipods, so that I can get it to sync, and recognize itself after update.  Anyone using the Hash58 code to do this....How does it work...Better yet does it work?

cheers

Re: new ipod....H+ or reformat

Hi,
I have a new iPod nano (3rd generation). It works with the new libgpod in testing without problems. I just have to create a file on the iPod (further information here: http://gtkpod.wikispaces.com/Sysinfo+Fi … sicNano3g).
That was all...after creating the file on the iPod it works.

I don't know what you mean with the hash fix. The newest libgpod supports the new ipod models.

Re: new ipod....H+ or reformat

I have a new 5th gen classic, and there is a new cryptograohic hash....which is supposed to inhibit use on other programs other than itunes.  It seems from a google search, that it is cracked, but I am having no luck getting it to work.  My linux will mount it, recognize it, and amarok will add songs, but as soon as I unplug it, it fails to recognize any songs.

Wondering whether it was because of the H+ filesystem, or what.  Have gone through that wiki, and my firewireguid is recognized by libgpod....but still the problem persists, so I am guessing it is either the hash or the filesystem it doesn't like.

What version of gtkpod, and libgpod are you using?

Re: new ipod....H+ or reformat

Look at the version which are in the testing repo. Those are the latest stable from the project. They have released this version exactly of this reason. Look at the wiki link I have post, because the problem sounds exactly like the wrong database hash on the ipod. The new libgpod fix this issue....

EDIT: From the wiki of libgpod:

Starting with the 2007 generation of iPods, libgpod needs an additional configuration step to correctly modify the iPod content. libgpod
needs to know the so-called iPod "firewire id", otherwise the iPod won't recognize what libgpod wrote to it and will behave as if it's empty.
