KDE media helper not detecting new device in /dev/mapper

Hi all, I have a LUKS encrypted external HDD and KDEmod correctly pops up a password prompt asking for my LUKS password. After entering the password a new device node is created under /dev/mapper. However, KDE does not detect the new removable storage, and no prompt appears to 'Open in a New Window'.

Anybody have any ideas on getting the KDE media helper to detect the new device?

Does it show up in  media:/ at all?

Nope, doesn't show up in media:/ or the Storage Media kicker applet. It seems like KDE isn't detecting the new device at all.
