External HD Problems

Good morning,
i've got an externel usb 2,5" harddrive (160gb, fat32) from trekstor on my notebook.
Its without power supply but with 2 usb connectors.
The Problem is that everytime i try to copy files the konquerer freezes.
This sometimes happens after 100mb and sometimes after 20gb copied.
The drive is automounted by kde (hal i guess) and the same problem exists when using midnight commander.
to copy. Everything is fine on my girlfriends windows xp laptop, so the problem is not the drive, i hope.
The System is a Fujitsu Siemens amilo pa2510 (ati rs690, amd athlon x2) with 32bit kernels from core and testing (same problem).
I hope someone has an idea how to fix this.
Thanks in advance.
Fabian

Re: External HD Problems

this is the everything.log... do these apic errors have anything to do with this problem?

EDIT: i disabled apic in grub and now it works...
but is this workaround bad for performance, energysaving on laptop or anything else?
I get a new message in dmesg now with apic disabled ."spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7"
