How do I make xterm have a black background and white text using terminus font size 12?
I think I have to put something in ~/.Xdefaults, right?
edit: changed my location from .xinitrc to .Xdefaults

Did you "xrdb ~/.Xdefaults" after making the changes?

xterm*faceName: Terminus:pixelsize=12

Ow right... It doesn't support alpha/pseudo-transparency?

urxvt supports pseudo-transparency. Here's what I've got in ~/.Xdefaults
urxvt*font: xft:Terminus:pixelsize=12
urxvt*transparent: true
urxvt*shading: 20
urxvt*fading: 20
urxvt*scrollBar: false
urxvt*saveLines: 500
urxvt*pointerBlank: true
urxvt*foreground: #bbbbbb
urxvt*background: #000000

urxvt supports real transparency too, you just need compositing for that...
