Reversed lid state in acpi

I'm trying to use laptop_mode on my emachines m2350, but I noticed that the fan would spin up more when the lid was closed.  I checked /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state (with the lid open), and it returned 'state:  closed'.  I have laptop mode controlling both hard drive and processor, and it is configured to only activate when running on battery or with the lid closed.

How do I give acpi a boot to the pants so that it reads 'closed' when closed and 'open' when open, instead of vice versa?

Re: Reversed lid state in acpi

I have this same problem. It also seems to have affected my video card as well. Since the laptop thinks the lid is always closed, the open source ati drivers have stopped working. Been stuck with Vesa. The open source ati drivers used to work...

The problem seems to stem from the kernel's ACPI support, but I havn't bothered downgrading to find out...

Are you running 2.6.23? This happened to me after that upgrade...

Re: Reversed lid state in acpi

Well I still have an inverted lid state, but I managed to fix my driver issues with my video card. Turns out the latest xf86-video-ati drivers stopped working on my Mobility Radeon U1 hmm Reverting to 6.7.195-3 seems to have fixed the problem.

Reverting to an earlier kernel seemed like it didn't work either. I still had an inverted lid state hmm

Re: Reversed lid state in acpi

Bump.  Anyone?  This is a serious problem, now that Xorg won't start if it thinks the lid is closed (dumb).  Plus, I still want to use some extra throttling to make my laptop quieter when I have the lid closed.  Can SOMEBODY suggest something?

Re: Reversed lid state in acpi

Blindly flailing about in Google turned up hal-set-property as something I might use to change the lid state.  Beats me how to use it, though.  The man page seems to be written for people who already know how to use it.  Since I don't know how to conjure up the udi or key that I need, I'm just as stuck as before.

I wonder if starting my machine with the lid closed will trick it into being correct (UPDATE: no).  Note that there is no lid button visible externally on the machine, so the lid actually needs to be closed to register as closed.

Anyone have some advice?
