I have set up my tv-out with nvidia-settings to run two separate xscreens since I don't want twinview or xinerama.
When I start x everything works fine and my openbox-session starts on my first screen. The tv displays a black background ( I can set the background for it with nitrogen if I want) and I see the mousepointer on the tv (an x).
Anyway the problem I'm having is that I want fluxbox to handle the windows on the tv, while still running openbox on my computer.
It seems that this could be done by applying the -display option to fluxbox, and that fluxbox (once started on the separate xscreen) will run all applications it start on that screen.
The idea was to run startx and have ~/.xinitrc first run the openbox-session (default on screen 0) and then start the fluxbox-session on screen 1.
But I get this error:
fluxbox -display :1
Error: Couldn't connect to XServer
Even when I put it in .xinitrc. Any ideas?

your second display is usually :0.1, not :1.
on your first display, open a terminal and do echo $DISPLAY, if that is :0.0, then the second one is usually :0.1.
Please test out rainbow.
